Apex Designs has released Payback, described as a 3D gangster warfare simulator with some serious attitude. It is available direct from Apex Designs or alternatively through Blittersoft.
Payback, which is in the vein of Grand Theft Auto, has a non-linear mission structure. To complete a level you simply have to obtain a certain number of points - how you get those points is entirely up to you; you can do what the local kingpin tells you, uncover secret missions or just go on a mad killing spree. There are 100 square kilometres of land and 3 different cities to explore with dozens of vehicles to drive, each with their own unique handling characteristics including trucks, cars, buses, tanks, boats and a few other surprises.
The technical features of Payback include perspective correct texture mapping, environment mapping (reflections), bump-mapped reflections, realistic shadows, alpha-channelling (lens flares, explosions and shockwaves), 12 channel 3D sound and realistic physics.
Payback requires at least, an Aga Amiga, 020 processor, 16MB Ram and is CD-Rom only. It also supports graphics cards.
