New Effort to Port OpenOffice
*

OpenOffice is an office productivity suite, which includes key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. This fantastic piece of software is available for a number of platforms and it is possible that Open Office might make an appearance on the Amiga.

OpenOffice has a range of features that will fulfil the needs any Amiga users may require from an office suite. These features include, the ability to import and export many different types of documents and templates in a huge range of formats, runs in practically any language, enhanced printing capabilities and options, and allows you to create external functions to leverage the power of the suite. There are also a number of useful tools such as Autopilot which guides you through creating complex documents, and Stylist allows you to change the entire look of your document instantly.

In the late 1990s an attempt to bring this fantastic piece of software failed but now Amiga users on Amiga World are planning a new attempt. With a team of twenty people devoting their spare time to the effort it seems certain that this second effort might just deliver a top-notch office suite. But don't expect to see this office suite any time soon as this huge and complex program is going to be the greatest challenge they ever faced.
