Jagged Alliance 2 Released

In a surprise move, Hans-Jörg Frieden has announced the release of Jagged Alliance 2 - straciatella to AmigaOS 4.

Jagged Alliance 2 was originally released for the Windows platform in 1999 and was regarded as one of the best strategy games to be released that year. In fact, Games Industry News awarded Jagged Alliance 2 as the turn-based strategy game of the year, while MikroBitti, a Finnish computer magazine ranked it as the Number 2 best Strategy Game of the Century. Hopes that this high-acclaimed game would reach the Amiga platform were initially raised when Titan Computer and the developers Tribsoft announced a Linux conversion but nothing was to materialize for Amiga gamers. However, with an open-source SDL-port of the game available, Hans-Jörg Frieden has taken the opportunity to finally deliver Jagged Alliance 2 to Amiga gamers.

In Jagged Alliance 2, a ruthless dictator has taken control of the tiny nation of Arulco. The country's large army has a terrified population in its iron grip, its only opposition is a ragtag bunch of rebels. You're in charge of the rebels in their struggle for freedom and in control of some of the world's best mercenaries if you can afford them. To win, you'll need the negotiating skills of a diplomat, the strategic genius of a general, and the battle tactics of a commando.

There are some incredible features in Jagged Alliance 2 from 150 unique characters with unparalleled personality to creating your own custom mercenary by choosing his/her abilities and skills. You can play straight through day and night, venture into claustrophobic mines with incredible dynamic lighting, and hear your team come to life with thousands of lines of spoken dialogue. In terms of the action, your mercenaries will run, duck, climb and crawl as they battle hordes of opposing enemies, and there are detailed environments with realistic line-of-sight.

To play Jagged Alliance 2 you will need the latest updates to AmigaOS 4.0, the shared libSDL, and the original game data files. Copies of the original game data files can be purchased from any good retailer.
