On Wednesday, Thomas and Hans-Joerg Frieden from Hyperion Entertainment answered a range of questions put to them by ordinary Amiga users. The IRC session organised by Amiga World proved to be a success as over five hundred people attended.

Hans-Joerg Frieden outlined in his opening statement that the release of AmigaOS 4 has been postponed due to the unavailability of hardware. He explained, “We will get a lot of interest from people outside the Amiga market, and they will ask where they can buy it. If we tell them they cannot buy it right now and need to wait until the hardware is available, then this will take away a lot of momentum that the release will generate”. Hyperion are attempting to resolve the issue as they are working with several hardware companies that want to provide new hardware for the operating system. These projects will cover both the low-end and high-end market.

A fourth update for AmigaOS 4 Pre-release is scheduled to be made public in January and has been described as being “quite comprehensive”. It will include Petunia (the JIT), Warp3D including the R200 driver, and the latest Intuition, which has undergone quite an overhaul. An update to the Software Development Kit will become available following the release of Update 4.
