In a surprise announcement, Hyperion Entertainment revealed the immediate availability of AmigaOS 4.1 for Pegasos 2 PowerPC platform.
It was thought that unsettled legal disputes between Hyperion and Amiga Inc might scupper plans to deliver AmigaOS 4 to other platforms, but it would appear that no such barriers exist or have recently been lifted. Hans-Joerg Frieden, one of the core OS4 developers, has even suggested that a Pegasos 1 version might follow, if there are enough users still out there. On the other hand, a port for bplan's EFIKA has been ruled out.
Despite the legal wrangling, the future prospects of AmigaOS 4.1, over the next year or so, are looking positive. Hans-Joerg stressed: “we have a plan, and are going through with this plan. As such, we do have our work cut out for at least the next 12 months. I do think you will like what will be coming up”.
